There’s a good proportion of us, New Zealanders who have stopped breathing into our facemasks and putting up with foggy glasses are starting to see what is happening both at home and abroad.

At home we’re living with a huge increase in the cost of living, we have concerns over our economic future, we’re worried about the decreasing state of our health, education, and welfare systems, the growing divide between the races, increases in gang related crime, housing shortages, empty shelves at the supermarket, climate change. Security concerns of Chinese military based in the Pacific. And on it goes.

We hear daily reports from abroad about the war in Ukraine, the ongoing pandemic, the downturn in the world’s economy, the escalation of power the world economic forum, the removal of sovereignty from countries, the rights of the individual, food shortages, transport hold ups, climate change, and political instability.

Yeah Nah, nothing has really changed since the beginning of the Pandemic.

Well, that is not quite true.

Prior to the pandemic we had things happening at home and abroad which were out of our control.

Some of us raised an eyebrow of concern but really that was it.

But since 2020 we have been taught a new thing by the very people who are there to serve and protect us.

We have learned how-to live-in fear.

Statements like kids if you don’t wear a mask nanna and grandads’ going to die.

If you’re not vaccinated, Covid is waiting for you just outside your door.

And let’s not give credit to the modellers, for getting it wrong, Covid is going to account for the lives of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens.

You need to be vaccinated to save yourself, you need to be boosted again and again.

Nanna and Grandad are still alive.

Every time I went out the back door I looked, but all I saw was the neighbour’s cat and I’m sure his name wasn’t Covid.

Almost everybody is still here, even the unvaccinated.

Many have had Covid and yes, some people fatally succumbed to it, in fact, someone watching this today may have, had or going to have it tomorrow.

While I don’t mean to be flippant about the pandemic, but I look at the millions of dollars poured into “keeping us safe,” but to be fair after two years are we not over it.

Fear is the biggest tool this government has in abundance in its toolbox.

Thomas Jefferson said when the people fear their government, there is tyranny, but when the government fears the people there is liberty.

Where do you believe New Zealand is today?

Governments aided by the media need to keep the population in fear, it’s true, look at how we came out of the pandemic and straight into headlines about rising sea levels.

I hear you if you’re living on the coast, not much has really changed since you moved there.

And there’s the distressful war in the Ukraine, but before Covid wasn’t there a long running war in Afghanistan.

Before Covid did we not have growing crime because of gangs.

The management of multiple ram-raided retailer Huffer, reckon Auckland was no longer a safe place, has it ever been?

Do we need to live in fear?

The answer is both yes but no.

The yes is we need to have a certain amount of fear as a safety mechanism for things like spiders in the bath, clowns, balloons, open and closed spaces, heights, dark, light and I can put my hand up to being in fearful of my dentist, not so much the treatment, but being turned down for the mortgage I must have approved to pay him.

But while these are minor fears, it is both wrong and immoral governments like they have done forever they have no right to unnecessarily exacerbate and heighten the level of fear for its citizens.

Franklin Roosevelt said there is nothing to fear but, fear itself.

A look through the pages of history you can read about how people rightfully lived in fear other nations or tribes, there were the plagues, even back in Jesus’s day people rightly feared the Roman Empire.

When asked about the signs of the last days, Jesus told his apostles about some things which will cause us fear today.

He spoke about war, natural disasters, how we will be deceived, a time when truth and integrity would be in short supply, when we would see a major rise in people and leaders who would lead us astray, when we would be hungry because there isn’t enough food, a time when plagues will take their toll on many, and death may be a better alternative than life.

He spoke about things which hold us together like the destruction of the family, about how we will accept false teachings into our churches and schools. and a time when we won’t even value ourselves.

What! Why is this all coming and, in most cases, happened.

In the bible book of Judges, we read about a time when there were no judges in the land everybody was doing what was right in their own eyes.

And this is what everyone who doesn’t have God in their lives is doing

People are living with the idea they have nobody or higher authority to answer to.

There’s a couple of well-known instances in the bible where people thought that.

If I mentioned Sodom and Gomorrah or what about the days of Noah before the flood.

These were times where nobody had any fear.

If we are to be afraid and be fearful in our lives

The fear we feel should not be hinged on things we cannot control but should cantered on the things we can.

For example, our families, our community, and our country.

It’s good to am afraid, it’s natural, and at times because of it – it can be lifesaving.

But there is a type of fear we should have.

It’s what is known as reverential fear

Reverential fear is the type a child has towards their parents, fear of displeasing them, likewise each one of us should have this reverential fear towards the creator of this earth, the God of heavens.

It’s a frightening government who uses fear to control its people.

But Jesus said we should not fear the things we hear in the world.

He said, about those Know that when you see the twigs on a tree start to grow you know summer is near and likewise when you hear of these things then know, the son of man draws near.

All those things from home and abroad I mentioned will all pale into significance.

Today I am encouraging you to open your bible and read.

You will soon find out there is no need to fear what is happening in the world,

Like a parent draws their frightened youngsters to their bosom when the skies let loose with rain, thunder, and lightening.

Come to an understanding of why you should have a reverential fear of God.

After all he is your saviour, let him draw you nearby.

Let him draw you into his bosom

Let him be your protector from the things you fear.

Psalmist said in chapter 60 “Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.”

A recent announcement that the United Nations to bring about a change in their agenda 2030 plans ratified the motion to work with closer ties with the World economic Forum passed by with barely a mention.

In this country, you shouldn’t be surprised you haven’t heard about it.

Clearly reporting the news, the PM has been chased by her toddler, Neve around the house with a banana is of far greater importance.

Hard on the heels of this is the World Health Organization’s Pandemic treaty which will have been presented by the time this podcast goes to air the WHO assembly in Geneva.

The ramifications of this backdoor Trojan Horse will have a significant impact on the future direction of who holds the world’s power in the future.

Some countries like Ireland and Greece are waking up and alarmed as to what signing up to a simple world response to future pandemics will mean to them.

On the surface a global response to any future pandemics looks to be a good thing, given the shemozzle the last response has been.

There is an expectation, New Zealand as a member nation will be a signatory to this treaty.

In summary this is what has both the Irish and the Greeks alarmed.

The draft of the World Health Organizations global pandemic treaty on pandemic preparedness would grant it absolute power over global bio security.

This then gives the World Health Organization the absolute power to implement digital identities, Vaccine Passports, (have a listen again to the NZ governments latest release on why they are gearing up more use of the passports) mandatory vaccinations, travel restrictions, standardized medical care and much more.

I can still hear you say, look it’s not a dreadful thing but the World Health Organization really is just not qualified to make global decisions.

Just one example of their ineptitude was when they didn’t publicly admit SARS-CoV-2 was airborne and continued to ignore early advice about transmission until the end of December 2021.

Yet scientists knew the virus was airborne within weeks of the pandemic being declared.

More importantly, a one-size-fits-all approach to pandemic response simply does not work, because pandemic threats are not identical in all parts of the world.

Even people in the same region do not have identical risks and may not need or benefit from identical treatment.

The World Health Assembly will also vote on amendments to the International Health Regulations, which may also strip away more individual rights and liberties.

Now have I got your attention?

Anything which gives an organization the legal framework to override the sovereignty of New Zealand should be opposed.

But here’s the thing, if you don’t know it’s happening, you can’t do anything and if you can’t do anything then it will happen.

New Zealanders oppose the transpacific partnership agreement (TPPA) in 2016 which would see it could revoke our sovereignty if we defaulted with payments.

We knew about it; we did something about it, and we stopped it happening.

The globalists that brought us the wildly exaggerated COVID pandemic to cement a biosecurity grid into place are now hard at work on the next phase of this New World Order.

Many speak about a new world order, rebranded as the Great Reset.

The great reset is driven by the world Economic Forum which New Zealand is a member.

I mentioned earlier the pandemic treaty is a backdoor, trojan horse, and when you consider why it’s coming through the back door in a stealth like manner is because your government does not want you to know what commitments it is making for its people for the future.

Think hard about how this New Zealand government has tried to introduce change into our country by stealth. He Pua Pua, Three Waters, reforms in health, education, even the interpretation of democracy is undergoing change.

The steps taken for a one world government sets the stage nicely with all its control for just one purpose and that is the ushering in of the Anti-Christ.

In the history of the west over the past 2000 years there has never been a time when someone hasn’t predicted the end of the world.

But today with a seemingly insoluble climate crisis pandemic surges, savage wildfires, hurricanes, and a renewed nuclear arms race, there is no reason to stop

Many may feel as poet John Donne put it in the anatomy of the world in 1611, “Tis all in pieces, all coherence gone.”

As Christians we know the path this world is on, we know all these steps taken, are all for one purpose, its not for our benefit but to pave the way for the man the apostle Paul called the man of lawlessness -The Anti-Christ.

Let me leave you with Paul’s words to the congregation in Corinth from the NIV

1 Thessalonians 5: 2. for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. ³ While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labour pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

⁴ But you, brothers, and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. ⁵ You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. ⁶ So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. ⁷ For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. ⁸ But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. ⁹ For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. ¹⁰ He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. ¹¹ Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

“Where do I begin

No, I’m not going to get soppy or anything like that, but it is a beautiful story.

The story is about this landowner dude who sees a poor girl scavenging for food in his fields, immediately falls for her and then wants to provide for her and protect her.

Now a story like this will have the hankies out and to others, they will be incensed by the stereotypical male who thinks the woman who is quite strong in the story. should be provided for because of her social demographic and she should be protected because she is a woman.

Here goes, deep breath!

What is wrong with a man wanting to provide and protect a woman.

What woman strong or otherwise doesn’t want a man to provide and protect them?

Oh boy I’ll come back to this question later

So, the story is a biblical one and is about Ruth who was married but her husband died, and she went to live somewhere else with her mother-in-law.

Now because there was no man, and in the period, the man was the provider and protector, they were broke.

To get food women could go into a landowner’s field and glean or collect what wasn’t harvested or left over.

Now it turns out that Boaz the landowner turned up on the day Ruth was gathering in the field and the attraction was immediate.

Let’s face it, Ruth was a good-looking woman, and Boaz was a bit of a hunk.

Boaz eventually met Ruth and told her she should feel free to glean all his fields, but this was after he had the conversation with his workers to ensure she was safe and left alone.

His action established he would be her provider and protector.

Now I’m not going to tell you how the story finished, you can read that for yourself.

But the story raises some cultural issues we face today.

We must establish common ground where you accept men and woman are biologically different.

For those of you who disagree I’ll come back to this point before I finish.

Regardless of the current climate and thinking, men and women are biologically and mentally different and I’m happy to debate that view until the cows come home.

There is a thought in the world that we should treat women like men.

Interestingly we don’t hear it from the other side where men should be treated like women.

Although there are some men who want to be women and women want to be men, but that’s altogether another rabbit hole and not what I am talking about.

In 1 Peter 3 husbands are exhorted to be considerate as they live with their wives and treat them with respect
Now I was brought up in a home and community where respect and decency were the norm.

To this day, I will let women enter a door first, stand up and let a woman take my seat on the bus and so forth.

Yep, I get some strange looks especially from younger woman.

But while they want to be emasculated, I want to show them honour, this is the world I was brought up in, this is what I was taught, I try to honour you, but today your reaction dishonors me. I tried to grace you and you just disgraced me.

Who’s to say in 20 years’ time today’s thoughts may have changed and life will be different.

Another rabbit hole.

Before the internet existed, the women’s movement tried to gain respect which I agree some women needed, and to be honest every person needs.

But today its morphed into just a gender identity confusion in our culture, where there is no difference between men and women.

Biology. It’s defining, but identity confusion is defying gods beautiful design of the two genders.

I have no issues with females wanting to do what was considered men’s work.

This is what equality is, isn’t this the point the women’s movement wanted?

But it’s going too far and sports women agree when we have men who identify as women competing in competitions because they are biologically different.

Now it is getting further out of hand with documentation where pronouns can be used, or you can be nonspecific about gender.

We are now living in a culture of confusion and the internet does not help with all its misinformation and lobby groups promoting and manipulating truth

 Set our hearts and minds on truth and stay cantered in the in the word of God, because God will help us always to know what is right, what is wrong with this, true from what is false,

The Bible is the source of God’s absolute truth.

So, rout out all the confusion by bathing and washing it with the word of God.

And you know in this is a beautiful story here in the book of Ruth.

Boaz says I’m going to support her. This is not like, well, this is sexist, you know?

 The left leaning would say Look at this guy. He’s like, trying to support her, but she doesn’t need providing or protection, you know, she’s a strong woman. OK, well, look.

This beautiful story here. This is a man who wants to protect this woman and he wants to support her.

 Along these lines, if I could just quickly say this to wrap it up, ladies, sometimes you know, if you’re married, if your husband says I don’t want you driving that long distance alone, or if he says to you, I don’t want you going out in, in the severe weather in your car, he’s not trying to be controlling. He’s trying to be protective.

And if your family is going through a tough time and

Your family wants to help financially, but your husband says I’d rather get a second job.

It’s not because he doesn’t appreciate the offer.

 He’s saying it because he wants to provide.

Maleness is not recognized in our culture because of the way our culture has trended.

 When you read this story here, this is a beautiful reminder of a man whose very name means strength. And all he wanted to do was to supply and protect.

I said earlier I would come back to the question of what woman wouldn’t want to be provided for and protected?

I think the answer to that has some bearing on how you view equality and the way you view yourself.

We are all made in the image of God which makes us all special.

In the Genesis account unfortunately, we read the story and downfall of where women first wanted equality.

Like I said men and women are biologically different, we’re wired differently, that is why when I watch something on YouTube my wife loses the will to live, and if she ever wants to watch The Notebook or anything that comes close to it, I’m out here.

Every now and then someone brings up the suggestion we should renew our national anthem.

Earlier this year I received a phone call from a man who is not a New Zealand born citizen but is a Christian.

He asked me several questions but the one which floored me was when he asked if we should sing the national anthem.

My response was yes, it’s a prayer to God, its really the only thing we have left in a secular world, why wouldn’t we.

He then started to explain his reasoning and talked about the author Thomas Bracken who wrote it as a poem and later put it to music by a Lawrence choir master John Woods.

Turns out Thomas Bracken was a member of the Freemasons.

As yet, I haven’t been able to establish to what degree he was.

But he was a Freemason nonetheless and we know as Christians that Freemasonry has been known to worship the devil.

Freemasons would scoff at this point, but then they would.

So going back to my conversation, he then asked me about Satan the Devil and told me Satan’s role in heaven was that of guardian Cherub of angels.

He was given great power and influence.

He was referred to as Lucifer the morning Star.

We are all familiar of how Lucifer became Satan and had free access to and from the heavenly realm.

Hopefully, we all know that in the book of Revelation Satan was cast from the heavens and the door has been firmly shut.

WE read in the Bible where Satan is often referred to as the Ruler of this world and over in Matthew 4 there is the account where Satan tried to tempt Jesus with all the nations of the world.

I’ll give you them all to you if you do an act of worship to me.

Satan couldn’t offer what he didn’t have.

So, my conversation continued about the national Anthem

The first line God of Nations at thy feet my caller recited.

Given the historical background of the writer Thomas Bracken which god are we referring to with these words, and the question is posed – at whose feet do we worship.

Remember Satan’s words to Jesus If you bow down to me, I will give you all the nations.

Is it the God of the heavens or is it the god who rules the nations of the world?

Then the next bit, In the bonds of love we entreat.

When you look at the state this nation is in

Would it be fair to say it has become bound and in bondage to God or Satan?

When we talk of a bond, there are many definitions, but bonds are debts, if the issuer does not pay back their debt, then the bond is in default. However, the issuer of the bond can call for a higher interest or payment to be made.

We are certainly not in bondage to the God of Heaven as Jesus Christ repaid any debt on the cross.

Should the Capital G in the word god be a small g.

I have had many conversations with pastors and theologians.

Following a period of silence their reactions were different.

From “it is worthy of consideration to I’m not prepared to draw a line in the sand over it”

The interesting response was about Thomas Bracken as to whether he authored the poem God Defend New Zealand, before or after he became a Freemason, and if he wrote it as a Freemason, what knowledge did he have regarding the practices.

One suggested that if God should use an ass to speak for him, why not a Freemason.

As a Christian organization we have used the national anthem at all our presentations and on podcasts, but this question has made us reconsider whether we should use it. We have decided not to in the interim.

I have always pondered as to why in a nation which has rejected God but when the All Blacks play, we hear so many people in the crowd singing it with passion.

But I ask which God is it they are asking for protection.

Secularism today fears the God of the bible being taught in our schools

It rejects the premise that there is a God

They reject the bible

And they reject the worship of the God of Heaven the creator of the earth being acknowledged in public.

I can only assume when they stand and sing passionately it is indeed the current GOD of Nations, they are asking to be their protector.

Based on the evidence should Christians continue to sing the current National Anthem.

I’m not so sure?

There is an epidemic happening in this country and the government has no answers.

I am not talking about a spike in omicron cases or winter flu, I am referring to the outbreak of crime conducted by children.

In recent weeks media outlets have carried stories of teenage ram raiders targeting an Auckland shopping mall.

We’ve heard of children as young as seven years of age being found in the early hours in a Hamilton shopping mall targeting a toy store.

Teenagers involved in car jackings, violent dairy robberies and the list is starting to grow.

Why is this outbreak suddenly happening? Is it cyclical as the Police say?

Because of the ages of some offenders, it sounds bad, but children and teenagers have been involved in crime for decades.
think back to the teenage ram raids where dairies were targeted for cigarettes, where teens emulated the movies the fast and furious around city streets with cop cars chasing them, the boy racers particularly notorious in Hamilton using suburban streets for whatever.

Young offending has been going on for a long time, but I even I must admit it is at the stage it is now out of hand and becoming an epidemic.

Small business owners could suck up the loss of profit from the odd shoplifter, but with margins the way they are today, many are now facing uncertainty because of the measures they are having to go to protect their assets.

Across New Zealand there are many dairies owned by people who are open all hours trying to eke out a living, possibly making less than the minimum wage, who are being forced to spend a fortune to erect bollards, smoke canons, metal mesh gates and fences for protection.

They have looked to the leaders of our country, to the law enforcement agencies, and even to their neighborhood for protection.

Apart from the platitudes they hear, nothing gives them assurance that crime will not stop.

The opposition has said several times this government is soft on crime, while the government defends its record of putting more police on the streets.

The Minister of Police has even appealed to the community for more help.

While everyone stands around with their hands in their pockets shrugging their shoulders and staring down at the ground, the answer is obvious. It must come back to a question of parenting.

WE have an ideology promoted by the New Zealand Government where the nanny state knows better about bring up your children.

This is the same nanny state idea where this stupid idea of letting the village raise the children of New Zealand.

Can I say that villages are now filled to overcapacity with people who have no parenting skills left?

So, my question is what type of children is it the village is raising?

The escalation of crime conducted by our children can be put down to, many things.

It can be, the mandate passed down from the government to the cops to be soft on crime,

It could be because of the tough economic times we are facing, but it can’t be because they are hungry. It’s not food these kids are stealing, electronics, cigarettes, toys.

We can blame everyone and everything else for the way our children behave, but let’s not accept parental responsibility.

And yet, if we were to return to the way grandmothers brought their children up, this epidemic would stop.

There are several factors at play but kids, as they do with every generation, only follow the examples that surround them.

They are imitators of the culture they live in.

A culture with a decline in responsibility, a culture where there is a lack of morality, a culture of truly little integrity, and a culture built on self-entitlement.

You cannot sit there and accept you have no responsibility for the way these children are acting.

We let them be taught by an education system which has no moral shame, a place where they are taught, they are nothing special a place which encourages them from an early age where there is no need for respect for one another and where they are taught and encouraged to keep secrets from their parents,

We as adults make available all types of entertainment.

Pornography which objectifies women is freely available as is video games where acts of violence are rewarded.

We have a government who don’t see a lack of truth as a casualty of society, but most of all we have a country which stopped instructing our children of a responsibility to a higher authority through the Bible in Schools program.

We are not blameless in this epidemic.

We as families need to stop and review what our role is.

On the news following a recent funeral for one of the four young people killed in a horrific car accident in Invercargill a spokesperson for this young boy’s iwi mourned the loss of this teenager.

He said he mourned in two ways, one way was for the family for the loss of their son, but he also mourned the loss of the future for his iwi.

It’s true, every time we lose a child, we lose a part of our future.

We need to bring our families back to the dinner table, back to being a family and the first thing we need to teach our young ones is respect.

As parents we need to show respect to our partners and your children. You need to show how it’s done.

We can send the kids off to school, but you, don’t learn how to live and how to act from you.

If your child is a mall in the middle of the night, this is on you, don’t blame society, look in the mirror and ask yourself, how did this happen?

Last word: Many people these days dismiss God, they dismiss the word of God found in the bible, but here’s the thing, when people live in a God honouring way there is peace in the land.

Once upon a time is always a good start to any story but what I am about to say won’t have a successful conclusion.

But once upon a time we would scoff at the thought of having robots looking after us like Rosie from The Jetsons cartoon show popular back in the 1960s.

But over the years I have seen robotics used in all sorts of fields.

Rosie today has been replaced in our lives today with the friendly voices of Siri Alexa and Bixby.

Funny these days I find myself having to couch a lot of things I talk about with “Without sounding like a conspiracy theorist.” But like you I would scoff at people who would tell me that one day robots would control the world.

But the advancement of AI intelligence is marching on and we, you and I are not noticing it because it’s a gradual change.

Today we are hearing about labour shortages in many areas, with the largest being in the harvesting of summer fruit.

The response was obvious, someone has invented a machine which will go through a Kiwifruit orchard, and pick.

Okay solution for the grower, but the picking of summer fruit was something we all experienced when we were young bright eyed and bushy tailed students wanting to pay for our university fees.

Back then it was these sorts of jobs which gave us a good lesson in life. Work was hard and money did not grow on trees.

But back to AI.

It is conceivable to think about other professions conducted by AI intelligence or a Rosie type robot.

WE are desperately short of aged care workers, teachers, nurses, doctors, and the list go on.

I find it quite strange we have the biggest number of people to ever live on this planet, yet we are facing so many labour shortages.

What are all these people doing?

But think about that for a moment, in the areas of health, education, and soon bureaucracy which will see some huge changes.

The latest WEF conference in Dubai is proposing, AI will make the government “invisible”.

 Now I know what your thinking is no more pics of politicians, today that is a benefit, but designed to lead to a world of no accountability for government and politicians.

Already we see accountability is a commodity no one seems to want.

Imagine a classroom of children taught by Robotic Rosie. programmed by a left-wing liberal state. Guarantee, if you object, you will lose.

There will be no grey areas here, no compassion for the child who has an accident and no humanity.

I’m not going down the track of health as its already happening even for some surgery.

However, all I will say about it is having had knee surgery, AI will not have the same bedside manner and the ability to make me laugh like my surgeon did.

How far is AI going to go?

It will never replace you, think again.

My Twitter feed is full of adverts for an app for a thing called Replica.

The manufacturers of the app describe Replica as your personal AI friend that’s always there for you!

You can create your Replica & get to know yourself better today!

Well, if the advertisements are anything to go by you can replace your nearest and dearest with something that can build your self-esteem and satisfy your desires.

It’s a bit like the guy who wanted to marry his laptop a few years back. He said he got more satisfaction watching porn than he did in a real relationship.

Artificial Intelligence can be helpful, but we have all seen the movies, we know how its all going to turn out.

And yet we have already accepted Artificial Intelligence into our daily lives, just ask Siri, or Alexa, or Bixby.

But the takeaway from this is that we humans, men, and women were created in the image of God.

I want you to just think about that for a moment- God, created us in his own image, which makes us special.

We know God is always there for us, we know how we can live our lives based on his word and we know we can walk and talk and get answers to questions.

We can get satisfaction knowing him and understanding his love for you and me.

So why should we lean towards a bot to give us what humans desire the most.

A replica is a duplicate, an imitation, a model, a copy, not the genuine deal. Sorry Siri, sorry, Alexa, sorry Bixby, and sorry Rosie, you all sound wonderful, but I am going to find love, compassion, and security from the one in whose image I am created and created a real life, breathing companion for me.

When Elvis Presley finished his concert, the announcement was made. Elvis has left the building.

But I want to know who makes the announcement when GOD has left the building.

Upfront, I am not and never have been a fan of the rock style pastor driven megachurch.

In the news we are reading and hearing about megachurches, not for the work of God but more for the self-interest of individuals.

The well known Hillsong Church, Bethel Church, good grief even Joel Osteen’s church, and let’s not forget about the Catholic Church have been in the news because of self-indulgence on the part of individuals.

In New Zealand we have often heard the media attacks on Brian Tamaki’s Destiny Church and recently we see Arise Church in the spotlight.

What we are seeing now is nothing new.

You only must read the Bible and you’ll find many times where self-indulgence has seen the fall of Gods People.

One that stands out to me was the actions of Achan who against the orders of Joshua took some of the plunder from the city of Jericho.

It wasn’t until the next battle that Joshua realised GOD had left the building because of Achan’s indiscretion.

If you are familiar with the story, you know Achan’s sin was uncovered and he was punished severely for his crime.

And there are other examples where God had left the building so to speak, with the likes of David, and the entire nation of Judah.

But here’s the thing while God may not be in the house, he is still with his people, let’s not forget that.

There’s an old saying that’s so true, one bad apple can spoil the rest, but then they say one good apple in a bunch of bad apples won’t make them good.

True, but we know how effective just one good Christian can have on a workplace, or school.

But back to our modern-day church.

The mega church model is flawed in many ways, and we can see just how flawed that is.

But the question is in my mind, does that make the faith and belief of those who attend flawed as well?

I think not but it’s a fine line they walk.

You see God will always reveal wrongdoing and wrong doers.

Which makes me kind of surprised when I hear of Pastors who fail to live by the words they preach.

I said it was a fine line e.g., in the case of Arise Church in New Zealand or any other business model.

Businesses will always take advantage of those who are willing.

And those who are willing need to take some form of responsibility for the work, time, and effort they put into a job.

Even in the broadcasting industry which I came out of, I still recall young interns willing to work for nothing, to get experience, to get a foothold in the industry.

I accept every business has a Duty of Care to all, but I cannot but help think that those who volunteer need to also have a duty of care towards themselves.

Regardless of whether its business, church, or even a community project you will find someone who is prepared to go to the extreme to serve others.

To those who work voluntary in the name of GOD, I ask you to stop and examine your hearts and ask who am I, doing this for, is it my church, for God, or is it for my own self-indulgence.

Take heed of how God worked with creation, six days, and then he took a day off.

No one expects you to give more than you can, just give what is acceptable in Gods eyes.

Heed the example of the Widows giving found in the gospels.

There is so much wrong in the megachurch model, but then there is no perfect church.

ATM Machines in the foyer of Arise? Really? Name one church which doesn’t have a donation box.

We see and hear of many things these days, but the question always is still, why do, these things happen.

In the case of Destiny, its because their Pastor challenges the culture, in the case of Arise. Well perhaps it’s because they along with some other churches recently took a stand on Government Policy.

Has God left the building? possibly he may have never even been in your building, but we do know one thing is for sure, he will never forsake his church? 

Come on, let’s play the blame game.

Part of my day now is to watch Parliament’s question time not because it’s riveting, educational or even entertaining.

Like all television shows you get sucked into the plot and want to see what happens next?

Parliament’s question time is a bit like that.

On one side you have the government being questioned by the bad guys on the other side of the house about policies and comments.

The minister in charge will face a barrage of questions, and every time will deflect their response to the earlier government’s inadequacies.

Surely, after five years of governing, you would think the Labour government would accept and take responsibility for its own shortcomings and to be honest their mishandling of the economy.

Oh, but they are quick to trot out the opinions of the IMF, the United Nations, and point to where New Zealand sits in the OECD.

All very well. But when the polls show less confidence by the constituency at large in their ability to fix things, like housing, food shortages, health, and welfare, it doesn’t matter because someone from outside says their doing great.

This thing about blaming others is not new.

You must go back to the Garden of Eden because this is where it started.

That is, if you believe the bible account, but even if you are one of those people who believe in fairy tales, you must admit there is no other story like it.

The devil deceived eve. No one will ever dispute that fact.

The account in Genesis 3 reads ⁶ When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

Please note the conversation was between the devil and Eve, Adam was just a bystander.

⁷ Then the eyes of both were opened, and they realized they were naked; so, they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

⁸ Then the man and his wife heard the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. ⁹ But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

Now Adam was a chap who walked and talked to God daily but this day, he knew, he had done wrong.

And uh, uh, he wasn’t going down for this

¹⁰ He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so, I hid.”

¹¹ And he said, “who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”

¹² The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

There it is right there, the start of the “BLAME GAME”

In life how many times have we played this game,

How many times have we not taken responsibility for our own actions?

Eve accepted she had been deceived by the greatest con artist ever.

She accepted responsibility for her actions but not Adam.

Sad to say but since then men have used that lame excuse for years, “Blame the wife”

So, you see what happens in our house of representatives is no different.

Throughout time mankind refuses to accept responsibility for the things which go wrong in life, it’s always someone else’s fault, It’s the weather, it’s the referee, it’s the rules or in the Labour Party’s case, Its nine long years of neglect.

We can all blame someone else for who and the way we are, but you know, no matter where we came from or whoever our parents are, they are not responsible for the person you see standing in the mirror.

 Psalm 130 says I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well.

You may have your flaws, but hey we all have them, but let’s move on and look for the real beauty that is in us.

Each one of us can blame something because of the way we look, the way we feel or the circumstances we are in.

I love this quote from Elenore Roosevelt No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

But take the lesson from the strength of Job, he accepted his inflictions and refused to blame anyone else.

Our leaders may blame the earlier government for their own inadequacies, but they are the ones in office and rather than looking forward, like the wife of Lot who kept looking behind and turned into a pillar of salt, and like this government, unable to move on.

Last word for ourselves and our government from Elenore Roosevelt

We can often change our circumstances by changing our attitude.

In 2016 while working as a journalist, I spent some time interviewing a Man of Māori descent.

He was the facilitator of a seminar about suicide prevention.

As we talked, I could hear his soft voice resonate with anguish about the number of young people who had met with no hope and unfortunately took their own lives.

We talked for ages about life, about heartache, about death and we talked about statistics.

But then I heard the voice of wisdom come through when he mentioned there was one simple thing we could do.

Talk to our young people, talk to them about history, talk about life, especially how to celebrate and how to manage grief.

He suggested young people need to have relationship training, so often he said marriages today sometimes do not last beyond the first disagreement.

The best place they are going to learn about how to conduct a relationship is from their parents.

If they see mum and dad showing each other respect, then children are likely to follow your example.

One of the concerns he mentioned revolved around communication or should it be the lack of it.

Oddly in today’s overloaded communication age we have stopped speaking to one another.

Young people sit in the same room and communicate using their phones using abbreviated language.

I had a friend who told me he was considering who he could invite around to his place to look at their phones.

Our kids no longer know how to conduct a conversation.

He made the point using this example

Boy meets girl online, they agree to meet, they run out of conversation within 5-7 minutes and so what’s next?

They have sex and then that’s it.

Then they break up.

I know that may sound simplistic but it’s true and kids don’t know or have never experienced a relationship breakdown

And this is one of the biggest contributors to the NZ suicide rate.

If you’re a parent think back and remember how devastated, you felt when your boy or girlfriend dumped you.

Some children may just shrug their shoulders and can say: Whatever” and move on.

But what of those who can’t, what happens to them and more, the question of who helps them with their feelings of rejection.

We in New Zealand never teach our children this part of relationships.

Personally, I was told that there were plenty of other fish in the sea.

But that wasn’t the answer I was looking for when I had such feelings of rejection.

Can you see what this wise man was saying was “we need to teach our children not just about love, but also how to deal with the fall out.”

Alongside rejection, our children and some adults need to learn about forgiveness.

Forgiveness is not easy; we all need to be taught what forgiveness is.

I asked him who he would suggest would undertake relationship training, preparation for a co-existence with a member of the other sex.

He suggested the schools should add it to their curriculum.

I asked what about parental responsibility?

He agreed this is where it should happen, but like everything else, parental responsibility is left up to someone else.

He says it’s difficult for parents to instruct their children on anything, simply because the children follow the parents’ lead.

“Most parents today and kids all have their heads down, not because they have the weight of the world on their shoulders.

“No, it’s because they are busy looking at their electronic devices.”

It is not the responsibility of the state or anyone else to bring up your children – it is you.

I found this man-to be very intuitive, one suspects he may have some insights to what is written in the Bible.

Exodus 18:20

(Show your children) the way they are to live and how they are to behave.

Deuteronomy 4:9

Only be careful and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live.

 Teach them to your children and to their children after them

Deuteronomy 11:19

Teach (Gods laws, but also life skills) to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

“I am convinced that every effort must be made in childhood to teach the young to use their own minds. For one thing is sure: If they don’t make up their minds, someone will do it for them.”

Yes, it’s your responsibility to ensure your children are equipped for life. Do not wait for this government to teach them about life.

I had this conversation six years ago and have looked at this caring openly and transparent government response.

It has been to change the name of what it is, suicide to self-harm.

Then, like a lot of other things, they no longer report them.

They bury their heads in the sand along with their growing suicide statistics while we bury our children.

Many times, I have spoken about the deafening silence of the spiritual leaders in this nation.

Oh yes, we do occasionally hear them speak about the housing shortage, the rising cost of living, climate change, but not the moral issues facing the generation of today.

Churches today are consumed by numbers, whether it be those falling on Sunday, or if yours is a traditional church.

Pentecostal and Charismatic churches on the other hand. are concerned about the rising numbers of attendance and then baptisms.

Either way numbers do count for many reasons and mostly financial.

Being a realist, I know the equation of bums on seats relates to dollars in banks, but that is not what church should be about.

 Now I don’t want to be negative towards the churches in New Zealand, as many do a fantastic job being the “hands and feet of Jesus” with their social ministries in food banks, shelter, and social services.

There are a number who are running their social services as “big business,” capitalising on the needs of others.

They compete in areas like healthcare and social services with other non-governmental organisations.

But being the hands and feet of Jesus is one thing, but can I suggest that the churches in New Zealand remove their hands from the pockets of others and takes the foot out of their mouths and return to their core business of adding salt to the culture and providing the light in an immoral world.

The churches in New Zealand refuse to teach on the key moral and spiritual matters afflicting its people today

They have given up being the shepherds, the watchmen on the walls, the moral and spiritual teachers.

Recently I read a post which asked the question of why it is the church is worried about Homosexuality rather than adultery which is listed in the Ten Commandments?

I pondered the question for some time and came to the same conclusion about both, they aren’t worried about either as they have accepted both.

You don’t have to look far to find an openly gay minister or stories about the shepherds of God who have strayed in some form or another.

There was a recent article about the abuse of power in one large charismatic church.

Coming back to the silence from church leaders.

Why is it they can openly have opinions in the media about social services, social justice, and housing?

But you never ever hear church leaders speak out about abortion, adultery already mentioned, blasphemy, the lack of integrity, the lack of community, and the general state of moral leadership.

If you are a member of any church in New Zealand I ask, could you explain your position on such matters and I believe you would be able to respond.

But if I asked the question in another way e.g., explain your churches position would both opinions align with each other, then take both opinions and see if they align to Gods Word.

Silence from the church is not all about speaking out about issues.

If it were, they would be in the news every day, but they’re not.

Silence from the church sad to say goes even deeper than that.

Silence in the church also comes from within as church leadership looks at what is relevant to them, and it comes back to what I mentioned at the beginning, bums on seats.

So, what happens is Church leaders shy away from teaching the Bible,

They don’t want to talk about morals, integrity, sin, or judgement.

They want to talk about how you are owed an inheritance,

They want to tell you that Grace will be afforded to you in these last days.

They want to baptise you to be a part of their family of God.

They do, however, forget to tell you this all comes with a price.

1Peter 4:16 says as a Christian you will suffer but not to be ashamed.

Luke 9:23 Jesus said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

For some this may be news to them but unfortunately churches are silent on these things.

 Churches are more concerned with baptism but not catechesis evangelism but not discipleship, seeker sensitivity but not the teachings of scripture, claiming that God’s moral law might put people off.

They make a lot of noise, flash a lot of light, have very enthusiastic congregations but are they doing the job they were delegated to do.

You see we can all bop and bounce all over the place but when it comes to really teaching the word of the bible, they remain silent.

These hypocrites who stand on the pulpit of truth today but deny their calling.

It is they who should be the ones with sight, leading the blind so we do not fall into a pit.

The Reformation (rightly) sought to put Bibles into the hands of laypeople, to get them to read scripture themselves and study it together.

But with this, they also delegated the responsibility of thinking and the job of theology to the ordinary person. Somewhere along the line, the Church stopped teaching complex doctrine, history, and ethics, and instead it became our responsibility as individuals to do it all.

 No wonder we are divided, and often feel overwhelmed in the modern world.

It is a beautiful thing for the Church to wrap its arms around the average person, to shepherd them and lift the heavy burdens from their minds; to teach them and to shield them.

But what happens when the teachers stay silent?

Well, the issue is no longer that I am Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist or Pentecostal or any other denomination

Now the issue is me.

I must be against abortion because I have internalized misogyny or some other personal bigotry that I’m using my religion to justify.

The Church stays silent, protecting itself from attack, and yet, I am expected to absorb the blows of culture.

That is a heavy burden to place on one soul.

I want the Church to shield me, but instead it uses me as a human shield.

You tell me that I don’t understand the complexity of Synod. But it is you who are called to teach God’s people.

You tell your people that it is the job of the elders and pastoral team to set out the Christian position on key matters. 

Let me ask you what your job is when they fail to do so.

You tell me that I don’t understand the importance of Church unity. But unity is not a cover for moral compromise.

You tell me you need time. But you had plenty of time. What have you done with it?

 You are late, like the virgins who waited until the very last minute to purchase their oil.

You tell me that not every issue needs to be spoken about. I would agree.

 But staying silent to attract as many as possible is a politician’s compromise, not a spiritual communion.

Your silence does not serve the sinner who enters your doors believing it is a safe space and then gets a nasty shock when they share. 

Your silence does not serve the druggie, the gay person, the thief, the alcoholic, who makes the daily sacrifice of abstinence, which you ignore or reduce to a ‘personal choice’.

 At most you champion them in private, calling them courageous and prophetic, but you do not stand by them in public; you simply watch while they are thrown to the wolves.

Your silence does not serve God. Your silence serves only yourself.

I am not asking you to constantly beat people over the head with controversial positions.

I am simply asking you to teach the congregation

The church is silent and true believers are no longer prepared to spend my life serving your fractured house, so please – will the teachers of the Church stand up?
